THE STORY: Philadelphia Style Magazine 2013
Milou’s body of work, displayed at his Beyond The Canvas: A 20 Year Retrospective Event, received press from among others Philadelphia Style Magazine 2013. PAWS and The One Fund Boston were two charities that were supported at the event. This was the largest compilation of the artist’s work to date and the Pop paintings created a huge impact on the large space. It was a rest treat to see works from every stage of the artist’s career displayed together.
“On May 9th, pop artist Perry Milou hosted 300 guests at TRUST for a celebration of his internationally acclaimed career … the impressive retrospective featured 50 of Milou’s original paintings…”
A fantastic photo gallery accompanies this article, showing images of Milou’s guests, works and the artist himself, proudly posing in front of his Cole Hamels Pop portrait painting.
“Evidence of inspiration drawn from Van Gogh, Warhol, Lichtenstein, and even Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli … Recurring themes … include celebrity personalities, contemporary and Renaissance Italian subjects, and… Philadelphia! The city is certainly shown a lot of brotherly love from Milou…”
FROM THIS IS IT PHILLY…: “Perry Milou: 20 Years Defined in One Spectacular Moment”
When asked what 20 years in art meant to him he said, “Well, it signifies a lot of pride. I’ve been painting for a long time, I’ve actually been painting longer than that. But it does symbolize two decades and 100 paintings I’m showing tonight and different periods and different styles, and different feels of my art. Being able to bring it all together in a great space with friends, family, and collectors and new collectors is really cool. I’m really proud of what I did and all the support I got.”
